Philippians 3:14 - I press onward toward the goal to win the Prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Joe Barina, Jr., 69, of Beaumont, Texas, died Wednesday, November 9, 2016, at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas. He was born on June 11, 1947, to Mildred Louise Huntsucker Barina and Oscar Joe Barina, Sr. in Goldsmith, Texas.

Joe graduated from Abilene Christian University with a degree in Bible. He also obtained his degree from Sunset School of Preaching. At age 19, his lifelong passion of preaching began, and Joe never overlooked an opportunity to preach or teach. He retired from BASF.

He lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures. Joe lived out what he believed--“that people are priority”. He devoted his energy to loving and serving others. Joe’s positive spirit and love lives on in the lives of those he influenced. Joe’s earthly jewels were his family and his ministry to God’s church. It is with great peace and honor that Joe left his world to be with his maker--his one true goal.

Survivors include his wife, Reatha Barina; daughters, Angela Dockery and her husband, David, of Denton, Texas and Tisha Wilhite and her husband, Brent, of Searcy, Arkansas; son, Caleb Barina of Beaumont, Texas; brothers, Howard Barina and his wife, Beth, of Brady, Texas and Lloyd Barina and his wife, Jennifer, of Granberry, Texas; sisters, Lenora Cates and Sharon Coon, both of Fort Worth, Texas; grandchildren, Alex, Jeremiah, Lindsey, Jadyn, and Hudson; and great-grandchildren, Cameron and Aubry.

A memorial service for Mr. Barina will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 12, 2016, at Westgate Church of Christ, 6390 Westgate Drive, Beaumont, Texas, under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont, Texas. A reception will be held immediately after the services. A family committal was held at Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont, Texas.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ridgewood Church of Christ Building Fund, P.O. Box 5126, Beaumont, Texas 77726; or to the Meadows Church of Christ, 9195 Dishman Road, Beaumont, Texas 77706.

Reatha, It is so hard to find words that are meaningful. We are at an age when nothing is certain, but always unexpected. I am sorry that you will be without Joe, but for just awhile. We know he loves You, Family and God. My thoughts and love are with you and your family. Love Mary Gail

Dear Reatha, and family,

Oh, how this is a sorrowful time for us but a joyous time for our precious Joe! For those left behind there will be a broken heart but as my mother reminded me many times of the scripture that says, "Weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning." And what a morning that will be! May the Healer of the broken hearted hold you close. We love you all so much! I will always remember how much it meant to us when Joe and you came for dad's memorial. Weeping and rejoicing, Becky
