Clarice Audrey Long Smith, 87, of Nederland, died Saturday, August 13, 2016. She was born on March 8, 1929, in Smackover, Arkansas, to Allen McKinley Long and Mable Alger Long.

First and foremost, Clarice was a lady, and she never went anywhere without her lipstick. Her lipstick stories are endless! She always made sure that her hair, makeup, and clothes were always perfect!

She enjoyed sewing for the public for many years. She also worked in the snack bar at Central Middle School in Nederland for 23 years before retiring in 2000.

Clarice loved to cook and bake for family and friends and was known to many as the Snickerdoodle Lady. She baked thousands of them throughout the years for countless occasions and events. No gathering at her house was complete without a good meal and tasty dessert. Clarice and Ralph welcomed everyone into their home, and they always made sure there was more than enough for an extra friend or guest. She made sure birthdays and holidays were a special time for everyone.

Clarice loved to travel to Colorado and other beautiful places. Her experiences in the many places she lived and her travels with family were the highlights of her life.

Clarice was never happier than when family was gathered and enjoying each other at her home. The family looks forward to carrying on her legacy.

Survivors include her son, Danny Smith and his wife, Cindy, of Larkspur, Colorado; daughters, Nancy Cain of Nederland and Sally Culver and her husband, Larry, of Port Neches; grandchildren, Lori Cain, Jay Cain, Keelie Smith and her fiancé, Jason Miller, Bryan Smith, Sarah Culver, Michael Culver, and Kristen Culver; brothers, Paul Long and Huey P. Long, and twin brother Clarence Long; sister, Marie Rogers and husband Pat; and special friends, Alan and Wendy Roberts and family; Mark and Peggy Griffin and family; Vincent and Alise Basset and family; and Ole and Carolyn Sunde and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph B. Smith; sisters, Ouida Hogg, Leona Lotz, Vera Fraser, and Peggy Sullivan; brothers, J.W. Oliver and John L. Long.

A gathering of Mrs. Smith’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland, Texas. Her funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 18, 2016, at Broussard’s, with her entombment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Groves, Texas.

Such good memories of our sweet Clarice. She appreciated Doyle's visits with Ralph so much, and loved fixing our fresh veggies for her family. She was such a giving person, and will be missed.
So sorry we are both "down", and won't be able to "say" goodby. Our love and prayers to each of you.
