James A. Morgan, 99 years, 11 months, 11 days, of Nederland, died Thursday, August 4, 2016. A life-long resident of Nederland, he was born August 24, 1916, in the 700 block of 13th Street, the youngest son of Alvin M. Morgan and wife Kate McCulloh Morgan. He resided for about seventy years at the family residence on 14th Street. He was preceded in death by his wife of over sixty-four years, Winifred Hawkins Morgan.

James is survived by his two sons Mike Morgan and his wife Joanna of Smithville, and Patrick Morgan and his wife Judy of Nacogdoches; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Morgan and his wife Sanieh of Austin, Jonathan Morgan and his wife Chako of Arlington,VA, Michal Rottman and her husband Rob of Dallas, Sarah King and husband Charles of Houston, and Bethany Orheim and husband Kris of Dallas; and eleven great-grandchildren.

James was a pipefitter by profession and spent the last 20 years of his working life at Crown Pipe Shop. He was an active member of the Unitarian Fellowship and Unitarian Church in Beaumont until circumstances precluded his ability to attend.

We are thankful for Vera LeBlanc, his loving partner, caretaker, and fellow traveler for the last several years of his life. Vera and her family made his life far richer and more rewarding. Even when his health began to fail, Vera was there to ensure that his life was as full as possible. Their relationship was one of love, devotion, and mutual respect.

A gathering of Mr. Morgan’s family and friends will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at Broussard’s Mortuary, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His graveside service will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 10, 2016, at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, 101 Block Street, Port Neches, with Reverend Mark Fleming presiding.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Morgan’s memory to Southern Poverty Law Center, 400 Washington Avenue, Montgomery, Alabama 36104, or to the charity of one’s choice.

Dear Vera,
My heart goes out to you. I always enjoyed seeing you and James in the audience at the Unitarian Church when I was speaking there. He was truly a light in this world and will be missed so much. His smile and laughter were infectious. And, to you, dear one, I send you much love and support.

Holding you in my thoughts and prayers,
Patti

I'm one of many members of Spindletop Unitarian Church who have fond memories of Mr. Morgan. For one thing, he and Winnie provided wonderful gumbo and barbecue at our campouts at Dam B. He lived a long, good life!
