Huzel Mary Nebgen, born Dec. 26, 1912, joined her family on Mar. 01, 2005. She is preceded by her parents, Nicholas John Rivette and Alice (Ozio); her husband, Walter Joseph Nebgen; sons, Walter Hugh Nebgen and Arthur David Nebgen, and her siblings, Dudley, Jarred, Irving and Myrtle.

She is survived by her sister, Eula May “Suzy” Bollman and husband Merton of Spokane, WA.; her daughters-in-law, Barbara Nebgen of Beaumont, TX and Mary Nebgen of Sacramento, CA.; son, Michael A. Nebgen and wife Myra of Baytown, TX; her grandchildren, Michelle Ann Bitterly and husband Charlie of Baytown, TX and Michael A. Nebgen, Jr. and wife Kaori of Houston, TX; her great grandchildren, Jessica Ann Bitterly, John Tyler Bitterly, Shaun Kenta Nebgen and Kaitlyn Maika Nebgen.

Huzel was a devoted wife and mother. Her entire life was centered on her family. Her three sons were raised to honor their Country, to love God, to respect and love one another, and appreciate all life. Huzel and Walter had a great love for their yard. They had a year round garden with vegetables and beautiful flowers. One of her greatest passions was growing herbs. They knew the botanical names for everything in their yard. She and Walter square danced for many years and traveled the country in their camper.

Huzel spent much of her time reading, sewing and working crossword puzzles. She ran a doll hospital in Beaumont for many years. She built, repaired and loved all of the dolls in this hospital. The quilts she made are in many homes all over the country. Her trademark though is her Raggedy Ann & Andy dolls.

She was a member of the Roman Catholic faith, from her conversion just before her marriage until the day she died. She was an active member and officer of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas for decades.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 A.M. Friday, March 4, 2005 at St. Pius X Catholic Church with burial at Forest Lawn Memorial Park under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont. A Rosary will be recited 6:00 P.M. Thursday, March 3, 2005 with a gathering of her family and friends following the Rosary until 8:00 P.M. at the mortuary.

The Nebgen family is extremely grateful to the entire staff at Swan Manor Assisted Living in Baytown. The love and friendship you shared with Huzel and her family will never be forgotten. You are all truly God’s angels on earth. Many thanks as well to the hospice workers from Compassionate Care Hospice in Houston, for their work, care and compassion in her final days. Our sincere appreciation to Dr.’s Kory Guidry and Edward Leahey and their staffs.

In lieu of flowers, a book donation to your local library would be greatly appreciated.
