Lucille Silcox, 96, of Kountze, died Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, Beaumont. She was born on February 9, 1919, in Russellville, Arkansas, to Della McKnight Leslie and Carl Leslie.

Lucille was a Hamshire resident for twenty-two years and was a member of First Baptist Church of Hamshire where she taught the ladies adult class. She lost her husband of thirty-two years and moved to Kountze where she became a member of First Baptist Church of Kountze. There she taught her first 7th and 8th grade girls. She was a fifty-year old widower and they made her feel young and needed. They were her lifeline and she loved them dearly. She continued teaching a Sunday school class, but she went back teaching the adult ladies class until age 80. She loved her church and church family. She also worked at the Western Auto Store until retiring at age 75. Volunteer work followed at the Kountze Library, Christian Loving Care Center, Keenagers, and S.C.A.T.

Survivors include her children, Wanda Stratton of Kountze; Linda Stratton and her husband, James and Buddy Silcox and his wife, Julia, all of Winnie; and Reba Bunt of Sour Lake; grandchildren, Joy Turner and her husband, Otho, of Hankamer; Deb Haring and her husband, Mike, of Katy; Jan Bergeron and her husband, Ray; Jeff Silcox; Corky Silcox; Michelle Silcox; and Rusty Silcox, all of Winnie; Troy Stratton and his wife, Michele, of Liberty Hill; Tish Adkins and her husband, Toby, of Lumberton; and Chad Stratton and his wife, Amanda, of Spring; twenty great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Lil Sheppard of Buna; and brother, Paul Perry and his wife, Dorothy, of Greenville.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lynn Silcox; brothers, Shelby Leslie and Eugene Leslie; sisters, Ruby Williams and Marie Cooper; and sons-in law, Louis Stratton and Jim Bunt.

Reba, Wanda, Linda, and Bud - So sorry to hear about your Mom (my second Mom). Bonnie and I had no idea she had passed away. Being out in Kerrville now, Bonnie still occasionally scans the Broussards site and just happened to see this Sunday night. She was such a fine, beautiful lady, and I have so many wonderful memories of her growing up next door to all of you. We were all truly a family for so many years. She will leave a rich legacy and will be sorely missed.
I am sorry we didn't know in time to be there for you, and to honor her. She will always hold a special place in my heart.
Love you all,
Dale & Bonnie
