Burtis D. “Pete” Payne, 69, of Lumberton, died Sunday, January 30, 2005 at Methodist Hospital in Houston.
Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 2, 2005 at Broussard’s Chapel, 700 W. Saratoga Hwy, Kountze, Texas, with burial to follow at Felps Cemetery in Thicket. A gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday, February 1, 2005 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., at the mortuary.
A native of Saratoga, he lived in this area all of his life. He retired from Oilfield Rental Service Company and was the former co-owner of The Nook in Lumberton. He was also a member of Crestwood Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Janell Payne of Lumberton; daughter, Linda Payne of Lumberton; son, Thomas Payne of Logan, Utah; brothers, A.T. Payne of Saratoga, J.E. Payne of Hemphill; sisters, Marian Porter of Mount Belvieu, Erma Watson of Kirbyville and grandson, Thomas Jacob Payne.
