John Carmona, 63, of Wildwood, died Wednesday, May 21, 2014, from complications of ALS. He was born November 22, 1950, in Beaumont, to Marcella and Refugio Carmona. He was a graduate of Beaumont High School, attended Lamar University, and was a proud Marine. John worked for the United States Postal Service for thirty-three years and retired as Postmaster of Vidor in 2007.

John volunteered with several organizations including Knights of Columbus Council 951 where he served as Grand Knight, the YMBL, and sat on the board of several organizations even in retirement. John loved helping his community and it is something he instilled in his children and grandchildren. The community, in turn, helped John and his family in their time of need and they are forever grateful.

John loved fishing and his friends, but his greatest love was his family. He is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Carolyn; son, Chris Carmona and his wife, Sabrina; daughter, Lori Yates, and her husband, Scott; his grandchildren, who were the true loves of his life, Caden Carmona, Addison Yates, and Brookelyn Carmona; two brothers; five sisters; one aunt; three uncles; numerous nieces and nephews; and his favorite dog, Pollyanna. John is preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Catherine Carmona.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Sidney Marchand, Dr. Joseph Oommen, the staff of Harbor Hospice, the community of Wildwood, and his best friend, Jim Doss.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Some Other Place, 1155 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont, Texas 77701 or Knights of Columbus Council 951, 9505 College Street, Beaumont, Texas 77707.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m., Friday, May 23, 2014, at Broussard’s, 530 West Monroe, Kountze. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 470 Monroe, Kountze, with interment to follow at Village Mills Cemetery, Village Mills.

Mrs. Carolyn, not sure if you remember me, but I am a good friend of Linda and Glenn Prioux. I used to hang out with all of you. I just saw John's obituary. I am so sorry for y'all's loss. He was such a fun guy to be around. Could always make you laugh.

I am so very sorry to hear of Johns passing. My heart goes out to you and the rest of your family.
John and I spent a lot of time together working on different details with the Postal Service. We also had a lot of great times. I will miss him, but never forget him.
