John Edwin Glasgow, 70, of Pacific Palisades, California, died Thursday, May 8, 2014. A native of Beaumont, Texas, he was born on March 12, 1944, to Dorothy Faye Glasgow and Collis Fields Glasgow. He graduated from Arlington College, now known as the University of Texas at Arlington in Arlington, Texas, with a Bachelors of Arts degree. While in college, John participated in the ROTC and after graduation he applied to the United States Marine Corp. Before hearing back from the Marines, he received a draft notice from the United States Army. He was stationed in Viet Nam for two years, the first year on the ground and his second year he flew as a door gunner and radioman on the General’s helicopter. He was later awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Achievement in the line of duty.

John was a licensed real estate broker in Dallas and graphic artist. He later decided to become an architect and was licensed in both Texas and California. He moved to California in the mid 80’s and started his architectural practice here. John was a wonderful, creative architect. He designed remodel projects for many luxurious and beautiful homes in Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Pacific Palisades and the Westside of Los Angeles.

John loved all animals, and never passed one that he didn’t stop to pet and talk to. He would walk and hike the hills of Hollywood and the Westside and could tell you stories about every street and every house. He was also a wonderful guitarist. John was a guitarist and singer in a band in Texas and always took time out of every day to play his guitar and was always inspired to try and learn something new.

John played a great part in the Palisades community, serving on various committees and was instrumental in bringing the very best people together for whatever the cause. He served for two years as the first alternate area representative for Area 3 of the Pacific Palisades Community Council. He was an active member of the Council’s Land Use Committee and worked diligently to protect the beautiful local coastal bluffs from overreaching development. John also served as the architectural advisor to the Marquez Knolls Property Owners Association Board of Directors.

John was one of a kind. He lived a wonderful life on his terms, loved being an architect and living in Pacific Palisades, never planned to live anywhere else. He was a gentle man, quiet, kind, thoughtful, easy-going, patient and so dependable, a truly honest man. The kind of man everyone should have the privilege of knowing. He was a very positive person and had the most wonderful perspective on life in general and was always upbeat. Generous of himself and his time, he would always stop what he was doing to help others. John made this planet a better place for all of us.

His motto was: "The sun never sets on the cool! John, it will always be shining on you.

Not a day -- not one day -- passes without a sweet or funny thought of you. You represented such goodness, such humor. I miss you horribly, my dearest friend.
