Leon Dale Smith, 79, of Beaumont, died Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, Beaumont. He was born on March 16, 1935, to Grace Pippin Smith and Sherman Leo Smith, in Carrollton, Missouri. Leon was an Electrical Engineer at Dyn McDermott in management construction. He achieved many awards and acknowledgements throughout his career.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-seven years, Darlene Smith; daughter, Teresa Dianne Mehrotra and her husband, Kishore, of Arlington; sons, Stanton Leon Smith and his wife, Linda; and Clayton Dale Smith, both of Georgetown; grandchildren, Shannon Dale Smith of Round Rock, Zachary James Whitfield of Beaumont, Nathaniel Shea Smith of San Antonio, Stephen Leon Smith of Georgetown, and Shimarah Dianne Mehrotra of Austin; great-grandchildren, Shyler Lilly Smith and Charlotte Kay Smith.
He is preceded in death by his parents; great-grandchild, Dominic James Smith; two brothers; and three sisters.
A gathering of Mr. Smith’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 18, 2014, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 19, 2014, at The Gospel Center Church, 7595 Highway 105, Beaumont, with his interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.
