Pearl Thibodeaux Richard Compton “Grand” "Oma", 90, of Sour Lake, was born in Westbury, Texas, on January 23, 1924, to Jewel and Gabriel Thibodeaux. Pearl was valedictorian of China High School. She had many occupations in her 90 years, but most significant was her work at the doctor’s office in Sour Lake for many years, and then as owner of Sour Lake Drug, Inc. Pearl was a long time member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Sour Lake and was Sour Lake’s Old Timer of the Year 2012.

Pearl was the epitome of "joie de vivre" with an excitement about life she enthusiastically shared with all. This never changed in 90 years. She had a twinkle in her eyes and a beauty queen smile that was a magnet, charming one and all. Her sense of humor and ability to tell a good joke were legendary. She loved to dance and travel, bowl, and play bingo, and she loved a good party. Pearl loved her friends. But above all, she was devoted to her large and extended family who adored her.

She is survived by her husband, Ross H. Compton, Sr. of Sour Lake, children, Randy Richard and his wife, Sharon, of Sour Lake; Pam Boyar and her husband, Bill, of Houston; Phyllis Gaddis and her husband, Bill, of Spring; Janet Pyle and her husband, Jim, of Kemah; Ross H. Compton, Jr. and his wife, Kim, of Canyon Lake; and Mac Compton and his wife, Susan, of Lakewood, Colorado; grandchildren, Shelley Ratcliff and her husband, Jason, of Wylie; Lesley Richard and her fiancé, Blake Van Dusen, of Belton; Adam Richard of Carlsbad, California; Justin Boyar of Panama City, Panama; Sam Boyar of Houston; Will Gaddis of Spring; Wade Gaddis and his wife, Mindy, of Spring; Christopher Pyle of Austin; Scott Pyle of College Station; Jeremy Compton of Cabot, Arkansas; and David, Laura, and Julie Compton of Lakewood, Colorado; great-grandchildren, Ann Marie Compton, MaryKate and Hayden Ratcliff, Eli Gaddis, Kristen and Jessie Compton; sisters, Dorothy Morgan and Joyce Radley and her husband, Glen; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and brother, E.L. Thibodeaux.

A gathering of Mrs. Compton's family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 210 West Barkley Street, Sour Lake. Her interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery in Sour Lake. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Pearl’s memory to the Sour Lake EMS, P. O. Box 1253, Sour Lake, Texas 77659 or the Sour Lake Lions Club, P. O. Box 841, Sour Lake, Texas 77659.
