Euel Bond Dugat, 94, of Winnie, passed away Thursday, February 20, 2014, at Winnie Community Hospital. Mr. Dugat was born January 1, 1920, to Ada Bond and Floyd Dugat and was a lifelong resident of the Winnie area. He was a retired rice farmer and cattle rancher.

Euel joined the United States Army in July of 1942, serving in the Aleutian Islands, as well as the European Theater, as a combat infantryman, during World War II. After the war, he returned to Winnie and in partnership with his brother, E.J. Dugat, raised rice and cattle. Over the next four decades they earned a reputation for honesty and good farming practices. In 1991, they were honored with being named Pioneer Farmers of the Year, by the Texas Rice Festival.

Euel enjoyed good cattle and horses, being outdoors, and visiting with friends. He was well known for his colorful stories of growing up on a ranch, on the Gulf Coast. Euel was past member of the Winnie-Stowell Volunteer Fire Department, and a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Winnie-Stowell.

Survivors include his son, Dennis Dugat and his wife, Sarita, of Winnie; five grandchildren, Tracey Brown, Darrell Pelt, Karen Dequir, Loren Wallin and Erin Dugat; five great-grandchildren, Evan Dugat, Aaron Brown, Reagan Brown, Kelli Pelt and Braden Pelt; sister, Letha Burr and her husband, Perry, of Winnie; nieces; nephews; and many friends. Euel is also survived by his very special friend and love of his life, Marie Winzer, who made his last years so enjoyable.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lindell Dugat; daughter, Judi Glover; and brother, Edward John Dugat.

Uncle Euel was good man and fun uncle. He used to keep us all laughing with his French humor..I loved to go visit him and Aunt Lindell, when I was a kid. Judy and I probably gave him a few gray hairs, Especially, when Judy and I got out of the jeep, while he was feeding the cows. This big brahmer bull got after us. Needless to say we hightailed it back to the jeep. I burned my leg on the exhaust pipe, however we escaped the bull. Everybody loved Uncle Euel and the family thought so much of him. I know Judi loved him as a stepdad. Peggy Trussell
