John Davis, Sr., 69, of Vidor died Friday, April 16, 2004 at Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital.
A lifetime resident of Beaumont, John was a labor foreman for 30 years with Mobil Oil. As an active member of the OCAW AFLCIO, he served as ombudsman for many years. He had also owned several businesses in Beaumont and Houston.
He attended South Park High School and it is said “That the sun may set and never rise but Greenie fight never dies!” John embodied that spirit as he fought to regain the use of his arm and leg after his stroke.
He was an active member of the Democratic Party his whole adult life and talking politics with his friends at the coffee shop was one of his favorite pastimes. Another hobby John enjoyed was cars, cars, cars! He loved them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Agnes and Arthur Francis Davis.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Davis of Vidor; children, Gerrie Davis Kelcher of Houston, John A. Davis, Jr. and his wife, Linda of Houston, Denise Blume and her husband, Tim of Longview and Shad Moraine of Longview; sisters, Mary Margaret Dickey of Houston and Lila Ruth Stone and her husband, Al of Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren, Louie and Lauren Kelcher, John III and Emily Davis, and Morgan Blume; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 22, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Terrace United Methodist Church, 1203 Wirt Rd., Houston, Texas 77055.
