Robert M. Campbell, Jr., resident of Beaumont, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2013. Robert known by his friends as “Bob,” was a loving and supportive Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather. Bob was married to his wife Susan for fifty-eight years.

Born in Remlig, Texas, Bob’s family moved to Beaumont when he was a child. Bob made Beaumont his permanent home. Bob attended and graduated from The University of Texas School of Engineering with a BSME, Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Degree in May, 1944. After graduation he joined the Army and was inducted into Company B, 63rd Armored Infantry Battalion of the 11th Armored Division (Thunderbolt) to serve his Country in World War II. Bob landed in Europe on March 19, 1945. Bob emerged from the war with many medals but being the unassuming man that he was all he ever said was that he fought under General Patton and that Patton really was a “tuff-nut”.

Upon returning home from the war Bob was employed with Magnolia Petroleum, now known as Mobil Oil as a Mechanical Engineer. Bob retired forty-two years later as the Project Engineer, on January 27, 1989. The accolades Bob received while at Mobil Oil are too many to list.

Bob Campbell was not only a member but a large benefactor at First United Methodist Church in Beaumont. He was better known for his endless time and dedication he gave to the many functions and organizations at the church; his favorite was delivering meals for the Meals-on-Wheels Program.

Bob was also known for his gracious dedication to the Arts in Beaumont. From volunteering at the Julie Rogers Theatre, Betty Greenberg Center for the Performing Arts, and the Beaumont Symphony Association.

From the glaciers of Alaska to a riverboat ride down the Rhine and everything in-between ~ Bob and Susan were ardent travelers ~ you knew Bob was there because he took endless pictures of Susan and gardens.

Bob is survived by his two sons, Reid and Alan; his grandson, Robbie; and two great- grandchildren, Prudence and Jude.

A gathering of Mr. Campbell’s family and friends will be from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 27, 2013, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be made in his name to Some Other Place, P.O. Box 843, Beaumont, Texas 77704 or on line at www.sopbmt.org

Bob Campbell was truly one of the most talented engineers to ever have worked for Mobil Oil. Bob was known for his ability to keep detailed equipment and process information in his head and rarely had to write anything down. His advise and expertise were sought by people from across the globe.... and yet he always found time to quietly help the young engineers just starting in the organization. Bob set the standard of dedication to his profession and community service to which others can aspire. His cheerful attitude and caring heart will be missed.

Goodbye dear friend. I know you are having a sweet reunion with your "best" girl. You were a wonderful friend and a very faithful volunteer here at Some Other Place. We could never replace you and Susie but you live in the hearts of those you served. Till we meet again, Love Chrissie
