Charles C. Tevis, 82, went to be with the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 19, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his family in Beaumont. He was born in Beaumont, on January, 3, 1931, to Peggy and Clifford Tevis, who preceded him in death.

Charles was a direct descendant of the first pioneer family, Nancy and Noah Tevis, who founded Beaumont, and has lived in Beaumont all of his life. He graduated from Beaumont High School and then attended Texas A&M University, before serving in the Radio Intelligence Department with the United States Navy during the Korean War. Charles retired from Sears Roebuck after thirty years of service. After his retirement, his love of photography and taking scenic pictures of bluebonnets led to doing craft shows in Texas and Oklahoma. He was blessed by people enjoying his work.

Survivors include his wife, Tommye Ruth Tevis; son, Mark R. Tevis; and granddaughter, Phoebe Tevis.

A gathering of Mr. Tevis’ family and friends will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 23, 2013, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Magnolia Cemetery, 2291 Pine Street, Beaumont.

We would like to thank Dr. Alfred Brady, Dr. Randy Lombardo, Dr. Colgan, Dr. Indupalli, and their staffs for their wonderful care and kindness during his illness. We would also like to express our gratitude to Compassion Hospice and their staff for their wonderful and tender care they gave to Charles.

Because of the love and compassion Charles had for mission work and his desire to get the audio bible to people who cannot read or write in remote parts of the world, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Comes By Hearing, 4221 Aztec Road NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87107-9987; or to a charity of one’s choice.

I had several conversations with Charles while working at Faith Comes By Hearing. He had such a "heart and passion" to reach the lost with the Word of God in a form they could understand.

May the Lord continue to bless the things he was involved in while alive on this earth!!

He will be missed!!

I have visited with Charles, several times by phone, while working at Faith Comes By Hearing. I know he had a REAL heart and passion for reaching the lost with the Word of God in a form they could understand.

May the Lord continue to bless all the things he was involved in while alive on this earth. He will be missed!!

I remember 3 years ago sitting in a Maasai village listening the Bible. I was told that one Proclaimer/Audio Bible was being used to plant churches in 4 village. In this village over 100 had come to Christ, almost all delivered from demons and now living with hope and peace. Why now after so many years of resistance to the Gospel I asked, it always came to us in Swahili or in English and so was foreign to us but this is in Maasai. Charles was responsible for bringing together the support that allowed us to record the Maasai New Testament and I think in heaven he will be having an awesome experience meeting the many who are their because they heard the Bible in Maasai. We want to say Thank You!! We are deeply honored that you have selected Faith Comes By Hearing to receive the Memorial Gift. Morgan
