Concetta "Connie" Shelton 
April 5, 1947 - July 31, 2013

Concetta “Connie” Brocato Shelton, 66, of Beaumont, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2013, from ALS, “Lou Gehrig’s Disease”.  A native and lifelong resident of Beaumont, she was born on April 5, 1947, to Constance “Connie” Brocato and Charlie Brocato.

 

Connie attended St. Anne Catholic School and graduated from Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School with Honors in 1965. She later attended Lamar University. Before her retirement, Connie worked in the Beaumont Independent School District as secretary to the vice principals at both, Vincent Middle School and Austin Middle School.

 

She is survived by her husband of forty-four years, Larry Shelton; son, Jed M. Shelton and his wife, Margaret; daughter, Cindy Shelton of Houston; granddaughters, Mackenzie and Megan Shelton; mother, Constance “Connie” Brocato; mother-in-law, Geraldine “Jerri” Shelton of Beaumont; sister, Linda Brocato Fortney of Houston; brother, Charles R. Brocato, Jr. and his wife, Sandy; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

 

She is preceded in death by her father, Charles R. Brocato, Sr.; brother-in law, David M. Fortney; aunt, Rosalie Arena; and father-in-law, L.H. Shelton, Sr.

 

She loved God, her family, life, music, dancing, and animals, especially her cats, Tom, Anthony, Smokey, and Loki; and dogs, Frick, Cookie, and Skipper.

 

A special thanks to her daughter, son, and husband, who were constantly by her side. Thanks also to Nora Gonzales.

 

A gathering of Mrs. Shelton’s family and friends will begin at 5:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m., Friday, August 2, 2013, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 3, 2013, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 5075 Bigner Road, Beaumont, with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.  Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Brocato III, Michael Lance Brocato, David C. Fortney, Kevin M. Fortney, Joe Arena, Jr., and Chuck Arena.
