Shirley Cherry, 80, of Honey Island, died Monday, July 22, 2013.  She was born on June 9, 1933, in Ebarb, Louisiana, to Elsie Ebarb and Tommy Amos Manshack. Shirley retired as office manager with The Kountze News.

Survivors include her husband of fifty-five years, Ernest Cherry; children, Jeanie Moore of Wildwood; Debra Alegre and her husband, Butch, of Woodville; Catherine Manshack of San Antonio; Ernest Cherry, Jr. of Honey Island; Monese Odom and her husband, Randy, of Wildwood; and Scottie Cherry and his wife, Pam, of Romayor; brothers, Sonny Manshack of Shereveport, Louisiana; and Dee Manshack and R. L. Manshack, both of Rye; sisters, Marie Procell of Winfield, Louisiana; Helen Miller of Nashville, Tennessee; Wanda Manshack of Lake Jackson; Carol Manshack of Crockett; Joan Lowe of Katy; and Kathy Manshack of Lake Jackson; twenty-six grandchildren; forty-three great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Doris Cherry.

A gathering of Mrs. Cherry’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at Broussard’s, 530 West Monroe, Kountze.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 470 West Monroe, Kountze, with interment to follow at Jordan Cemetery, Honey Island.
