Edgar Granger, Jr. 
July 2, 1916 - June 8, 2013

Edgar Granger, Jr., 96, of Beaumont, died Saturday, June 8, 2013, at Harbor Hospice House, Beaumont. A native of Beaumont, he was born on July 2, 1916, to Esther Mackan Granger and Edgar Herbert Granger, Sr.

 

Survivors include his children, Herbert Granger and his wife, Gina, of Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan; Rodney Hebert and his wife, Judye, of Gulf Breeze, Florida; and Vonda Sharron and her husband, Douglas, of San Antonio; seven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Belt; and numerous other loving family members.

 

He was preceded in death by his first loving wife, Monnie Terry; and his second loving wife, Lois Janicke Hebert.

 

Mr. Granger was a merchant mariner for most of his working life. He served on Liberty ships during World War II and later as a first officer on super tankers for Atlantic Richfield. Mr. Granger retired in 1981 and became an avid golfer developing considerable skills, achieving three holes-in-one in his late eighties and nineties. His last hole-in-one was at the age of ninety-six.

 

A gathering of Mr. Granger’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. His graveside service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Magnolia Cemetery, 2291 Pine Street, Beaumont.
