Velma Jannise Martin, 67, of Winnie, died Friday, June 7, 2013, at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston. She was born on November 19, 1945, in Beaumont, to Julia and Clifton Jannise, and had been a longtime resident of the area. Velma was a retired cake decorator.

She is survived by her husband, Lee Martin of Winnie; sons, Kevin Martin and his wife, Kerry, of Houston and Michael Martin and his wife, Lia, of Lovelady; daughter, Melissa Menchaca and her husband, Johnny, of Pasadena; grandchildren, Trenton Martin, Bradley Luckey, Melody Cantu, Sharon Martin, Landree Martin, Kody Martin, and Kassie Martin; great-grandchildren, Adrian Cantu, Gabriel Cantu, and Payton Martin; sisters, Barbara Langlois and her husband, Ronnie, of Winnie  and Ann Crain of China; sister-in-law, Linda Brown of Fort Smith, Arkansas; brother, Larry Jannise and his wife, Barbara, of Houston; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A gathering of Mrs. Martin’s family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, June 9, 2013, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 10, 2013, at St. Louis Catholic Church, 315 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie, with interment to follow at China Cemetery, China.
