Eugene William Schwarzlose III, 61, of Beaumont, died Friday, May 10, 2013, at Memorial Hermann Heart and Vascular Institute in Houston.  A native of Kerrville, Texas, he was born to Dorothy Lillian Karger and Eugene W Schwarzlose II on June 25, 1951.

Bill built custom in ground gunite swimming pools in Southeast Texas from the time he was twelve years old (beginning in his own backyard and learning the business from his father) until his hospitalization this year. His design and construction philosophy was high-level finish and long lasting quality.

In 1976, Bill married his beloved ballerina, Kimmy, wooing her with countless laughs and exactly two trips to see the Houston Ballet.  With that union, he became a committed patron of the performing arts in Southeast Texas.

Bill was an enthusiastic participant in his children’s numerous activities, whether that was Will’s various sports, Elle’s ballet performances, or Kate’s softball and basketball.

He was also a passionate outdoorsman, Texas Longhorn, and golfer.  He was a long time member of the Beaumont Country Club until his health precluded him from enjoying the game he loved.  He enjoyed spending Saturdays in the fall at Darrell K. Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium watching the Longhorns on the football field with his great friends David Cook and Ren Maupin.

Bill spent as much of his leisure time as possible in the outdoors.  Whether fishing locally on Sabine Lake or the Lower Laguna Madre of South Texas or hunting ducks, dove, deer, or quail in various locations around this beautiful state, Bill loved these pursuits and all of the associated activities of the hunting or fishing camp.

Bill’s love of the outdoors led him to participate in local chapters of the Coastal Conservation Association and Ducks Unlimited.  In CCA, Bill found his true calling.  After serving as the Golden Triangle Chapter President he served on the state board in the late 90’s.  He eventually served as President of CCA Texas from 2007, until his health forced him to take a leave of absence last December.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gene.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to CCA Texas, 6919 Portwest, Suite 100, Houston, TX 77024 or www.ccatexas.org.
