J.A. McCallon, 79, of Nederland, died Monday, May 6, 2013, at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas, Port Arthur. He was born on January 31, 1934, to Levie Wyoming and James Archie McCallon, Sr., in Doucette, Texas, and had been a resident of the area for sixty-seven years. James was an excellent musician and songwriter. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid fisherman. James will always be remembered as a loving and nurturing Paw-Paw to his grandchildren and an inspiration to all that knew him.

He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Ann McCallon; sons, Ron McCallon and his wife, Cyndy, of Friendswood; Larry McCallon of North Richland Hills; and David McCallon and his wife, Suzanne, of Buna; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Eloise Jackson of Kountze, Willie Pearl Burns, Gladys Stalsby and Billie Faye Roberts, all of Dallas.

James is preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and three brothers.

A gathering of Mr. McCallon’s family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m., with his funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.
