William "Sidney" Lackey

William “Sidney” Lackey, 86, of Nederland, died Saturday, April 20, 2013, in Kingwood. He was born on December 20, 1926, to C.D. and Willis “Smokey” Lackey, in Port Arthur, and had been a lifelong resident of the area. Sidney was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served in World War II. During his time in the service, he witnessed the historically remembered flag being raised in Iwo Jima. Sidney worked for many years as a boilermaker, before his retirement from Jefferson Chemical. He enjoyed motorcycles, flying, and racing cars. Sidney is survived by his children, Cheryl Chamblee and her husband, James, of Klein; Sue Boudreaux and her husband, Lynn, of Newton; Beth Panzarella and her husband, Robert, of Kingwood; and Barry Lackey and his wife, Laure, of China; grandchildren, Amy Leipzig and her husband, Ben; Laura Franek and her husband, Ron; April Mason; Leslie Gunn and her husband, Brian; Jessica Boudreaux; Bobby Panzarella; Nick Panzarella; Joseph Panzarella; and John Panzarella; and great-grandchildren, Faith Mason, Jake Leipzig, Maggie Franek, Logan Gunn, and Tanner Gunn. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruby Lackey; father figure, Chris Shunck; and stepfather, Jack Pederson. A graveside service for Mr. Lackey will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, 101 Block Street, Port Neches, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.
