Woodrow R. Dyer, Sr. 
December 27, 1921 - April 9, 2013

Woodrow R. Dyer, Sr., 91, of Beaumont, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at Harbor Hospice, Beaumont. He was born on December 27, 1921, in Oakdale, Louisiana, to Myrtle and Lonnie Dyer, and had been a longtime resident of Beaumont. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Beaumont.

 

Family was the center of his universe and a source of great pride. He gave each of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren the gift of unending love and support.

 

He is survived by his loving wife and soul mate of seventy-one years, Agnes “Jackie” Dyer; children, W. Robert Dyer, Jr. and his wife, Ann; Joseph Dyer; Marian Dyer; Karen Wilson and her husband, Paul; Colleen Dyer; and Jackie Grigar; grandchildren, W. Robert Dyer III, William Dyer, Chip Wilson, Kathleen Wilson, Stephen Grigar, Kyle Grigar, and Garrett Dyer Vaughn; great-grandchildren, W. Robert Dyer IV, Michael Dyer, and Thomas Dyer; and sisters, Evelyn Bartlett and Faye Hasse and her husband, Mark.

 

Woodrow is preceded in death by his mother, Myrtle Dyer; father, Lonnie Dyer; and sisters, Hazel Aldred and Floyce Bowden.

 

Woodrow was a gardener extraordinaire. He was a lover of animals, particularly race horses. Most of his friends knew him for his ability to weave a great story. As a self-made man, he was admired by many. He will be greatly missed.

 

A Rosary for Mr. Dyer will be recited at 6:00 p.m., with a gathering of his family and friends to follow, Friday, April 12, 2013, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 13, 2013, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 5075 Bigner Road, Beaumont, with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.
