Margaret Mills Coplen 
September 13, 1929 - March 30, 2013

Margaret Mills Coplen, 83, of Kountze, went to be with the Lord and her husband,  Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth, Beaumont. Margaret was born September 13, 1929, in Port Arthur, to Aline Marie Hebert Mills and Archie Rivers Mills, where she shared a happy childhood with her three sisters and brother. Margaret was a devoted wife, mother, and friend.  She was a longtime member of Faith Assembly of God Church in Lumberton where she served as Sunday school secretary for many years. Margaret dearly loved her church family.

 

It was in her late teen years when she first me James Odell Coplen. The two were married on March 23, 1946, and shared sixty-five happy years together. Mr. and Mrs. Coplen relocated to Kountze in 1977 where she took up many hobbies such as gardening, farming, nature watching, while still maintaining her most cherished role of homemaker.

 

Those who knew Margaret will remember her for her devoted spirit, her faithfulness, and most of all, her kind heart and compassionate nature who truly lived her life as an example of 1 John 4:8, which states, “God is love.”

 

Margaret is survived by her children, Jimmye Carol Duhon and her husband, Larry; Craig Odelle Coplen, Sr. and his wife, Kathy; and Julie Ann Martin, all of Kountze; brother, Mike Mills of Lumberton; sister, June Matlock of Dallas; five grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

 

She is preceded in death by her husband, James O. Coplen.

 

A gathering of Mrs. Coplen’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Broussard’s, 530 West Monroe, Kountze. Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at Broussard’s, with burial to follow at Old Hardin Cemetery, Kountze.
