Juanita Evelyn Gilkerson, 86, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, March 27, 2013. She was born on January 14, 1927, to Florence Oliver Phelps and Brooxy Bryant Phelps, in Hamshire, and had been a longtime resident of the area. Juanita was a retired bookkeeper.

Survivors include her son, Kenneth Otis Gilkerson and his wife, Sandra, of Las Vegas, Nevada; daughter, Catherine Gilkerson Shadle of Beaumont; son, Carlos William Gilkerson of Orange; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Phelps Jones of Rockwall; and brothers, Everett B. Phelps of Beaumont and Charles Wayne Phelps of Cheek.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Otis Gilkerson.

A gathering of Mrs. Gilkerson’s family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Sunday, March 31, 2013, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 1, 2013, at Broussard’s, with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.
