Lois Faye Brannan Gober
October 1, 1923 - March 22, 2013

Lois Faye Brannan Gober, 89, of San Antonio, formerly of Beaumont and Nederland, died of pneumonia on Friday, March 22, 2013, at Methodist Stone Oak Hospital, in San Antonio.  She passed into the loving arms of the Lord with her devoted children by her side.

She was born on October 1, 1923, in Hillsboro, to Ethel Izora Brannan and James Claude Gober. She was the second of three girls, who remained best friends throughout her life.  Her family moved to the South Park area of Beaumont, where she graduated from South Park High School.

With nothing but her God given talent and beautiful hands, Lois Faye became a commercial artist.  She had just won the official poster contest for the Neches River Festival when she fell in love and married Dene C. Gober.  The marriage produced four children.  In a cruel twist of fate, she found herself raising them alone in a world where women were paid a fraction of what her male counter parts received.

Lois survived the Depression, World War II, four teenagers, divorce, broken hearts, numerous illnesses, leaky roofs, broken down cars, a mugging, and several hurricanes.  But during it all her faith never wavered, nor did her love for her children, who would do anything to coax a laugh from her, even during the darkest moments.  The ugliness of the struggle disappeared in the presence of her glorious smile and unbound love for her family and all living things.

Lois Faye loved genealogy, needlepoint, and gardening. She was a voracious reader, and could read a 600 page novel before you could get past the second chapter.  She enjoyed discussing current events and had an opinion about every celebrity and politician.  Her mind was sharp as a tack, and she kept her wonderful sense of humor until the very end.  Everyone she met or knew would always describe her with only on word:  Beautiful.

Survivors include her daughters, Dena Dalton and Nicolette Shaw; her son, Jim Gober, and their spouses; sisters, Doris Hatton and Claudine Stapleton; grandchildren, Ryanne, Rebecca, and Olivia; and numerous friends and extended family.  She is preceded in death by her parents; and son, Alex.

A gathering of Mrs. Gober’s family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, March 25, 2013, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont.  Her funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at First United Methodist Church, 1826 Nall Street, Port Neches, with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.
