Leo F. Luquette, Sr.
March 6, 1928 - February 14, 2013 |
Leo F. Luquette, Sr., quietly passed from this life to the next on February 14, 2013, following a brief illness. He was born in Beaumont, on March 6, 1928, to Dora Price Luquette and A.J. Luquette, Sr. He graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1945 and after high school he served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in December 1947. Leo worked at Pure Oil upon returning from the service. After leaving Pure Oil he went to work at Gulf States Utilities Company. It was in downtown Beaumont that he met his wife Pat. Leo returned to college receiving his electrical engineering degree from Lamar University in 1959. Leo and Pat were avid square dancers for a number of years and had a great circle of square dance friends. He retired from Mobil Chemical Company in Beaumont but continued a very active life. Leo loved building things, fishing, traveling, and golf when he could fit it into his schedule. He was a volunteer for Some Other Place for a number of years, delivering meals with his wife to the needy. His faith and religion were very important and he actively participated at St. Anthony Cathedral, even helping to make cookies for the St. Joseph Altar each year and cooking the pasta with his fellow Cathedral men. He was generous with his time, talents and efforts. Besides being a devoted husband, Leo was a wonderful father and grandfather. He was very proud of the accomplishments of his children, Leo Jr. and Karen and her husband, David Hanson. His loyalty, example, and support demonstrated his love for them more than words ever could. He adored his three grandchildren, Heather Luquette, Connor Hanson, and Courtlyn Hanson; and had many fun times playing, fishing, traveling, and talking with them. Leo is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Pat; son, Leo Jr. of Monument, Colorado; daughter, Karen Hanson and her husband, David, of Coppell, Texas; grandchildren, Heather Luquette, Connor Hanson, and Courtlyn Hanson; very special daughter-in-law, Anna Luquette of Austin; brothers, A.J. Luquette of Amarillo and Edward Luquette and his wife, Lillie, of Fannett; sisters, Loretta of Beaumont and Estelle Etie and her husband, Galen, of Beaumont; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Pearl Couvillon and Helen Erickson. The family wishes to thank the wonderful care Leo was given by Dr. Dan Harmon for twenty-five plus years while he resided in Beaumont; and Dr. Timothy Colgan and Dr. Mark Toups. A Christian Vigil for Mr. Luquette will begin at 6:00 p.m., Monday, February 18, 2013, with a gathering of his family and friends to follow until 8:00 p.m., at Broussard's, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica, 700 Jefferson Street, Beaumont, with interment to follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont. Memorials contributions may be made to St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica, 700 Jefferson Street, Beaumont, Texas 77703.
