Woody Joe Baskin, 71, of Beaumont, died Friday, February 1, 2013. He was born on September 4, 1941, in Woodville, to Emily Beatrice Gautreaux Baskin and Joe William Baskin. He was raised in Beaumont, graduated from Beaumont High School and was a meat cutter for most of his adult life retiring from Jack's Pack It in Beaumont. He enjoyed going to Houston Raceway Park for many years with his brother, Benny Baskin. He lived in Leander, Texas, near Austin, for the past two years during which time his favorite pastimes were watching monster trucks with his grandson, Daniel and reading to his granddaughter, Grace. Daniel and Grace adored their Papa and they softened Woody’s heart more than anything in the world. He is preceded in death by his parents, Emily and Joe Baskin; and sister, Paula Hebert. Survivors include his wife, Faith Griffin; step-son, Gregory Griffin; step-daughter Melissa Dorr and husband Phil; grandchildren, Daniel and Grace; his children, Woody Baskin, David Baskin, Brenda Baskin and their children; brother, Benny Baskin; and several nieces and nephews. A gathering of Mr. Baskin’s family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, February 4, 2013, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. His funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at Broussard’s, with a graveside service to follow at Springhill Cemetery, in Hemphill.
