Gladys Mary Melancon 
February 17, 1924 - January 30, 2013

Gladys Melancon, 88, of Hamshire, died Tuesday, January 30, 2013, at The Arboretum in Winnie. She was born February 17, 1924, in Lawtell, Louisiana, to John and Eve Stanford.

Gladys was the proprietor of “Gladys’ Cafe” in Hamshire before retiring. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and playing bingo.

Gladys is survived by her son, Louis Bourque; daughters, Nell Broussard and her husband, Paul, of Hamshire, and Margie Howard and her husband, Bobby, of New Port, North Carolina; brother, John Stanford of Orange; ten grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Martin Melancon; two children; and a grandson.

The family would like to thank Danny Thompson, PA-C, the staff of The Arboretum, and Odyssey Hospice for the wonderful care they gave to Gladys.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Melancon’s name to St. Louis Catholic Church, 315 Buccaneer Drive, Winnie, Texas 77665.

A gathering of Mrs. Melancon’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Friday, February 1, 2013, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 2, 2013, at St. Louis Catholic Church, 315 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie, with interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.
