James Bergdorf, 65, of Hamshire, died Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at his home surrounded by family and friends. He was born on September 21, 1947, to Ethel Bergdorf and C. P. Bergdorf, and had been a longtime resident of Hamshire. James retired as foreman with Grinnell Fire Protection following thirty-seven years of service. 

He is survived by his loving wife of forty years, Jackie Bergdorf; daughters, Jana Ellison and her husband, Jason, of College Station, Jada Melancon and her husband, Judd, of Pearland; grandchildren, Jase, Jenna, Julianne, and Jordyn; mother, Ethel Bergdorf; sister, Lillian Hebert, both of Fannett; and sister Betty Blaylock and her husband, Bill; brother, John Bergdorf and his wife, Trudy, all of Beaumont; and numerous nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his father; and sister, Ruth Bergdorf.

The family would like to thank Lorri Robertson, his Harbor Hospice nurse, for the loving care, compassion, and support she gave to James.
