Cecil Simmons Ricks, Jr. 
May 25, 1927 - January 15, 2013

Cecil S. Ricks, Jr., 85, of Nederland, died Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas in Port Arthur.  He was born on May 25, 1927, to Mary Bossier Ricks and Cecil Simmons Ricks, Sr., in San Augustine, Texas.  After serving in the Navy during World War II, Cecil was a dedicated operator at Texaco for forty-one years. Mr. Ricks was a member of Groves Masonic Lodge #1315 for sixty years. He enjoyed listening to country music and being outdoors; especially traveling, fishing, and spending time in his garden.

 

Mr. Ricks is survived by his daughter, Elaine Ricks Bunn and her husband, Gregory, of Fort Worth; son, Gene Wayne Ricks and his wife, Terri, of Bridge City; grandchildren, Jason Talbert,  Melanie Talbert, Amy Showers, and Jamie Hawkins; great-grandchildren, Reece Showers and Mason Hawkins; brother, Paul R. Ricks and his wife, Nancy, of Warren; niece, Alysessa; and nephew, Derek.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents; and wife of fifty-six years, Betty Hux Ricks.

 

A gathering of Mr. Ricks’ family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at Broussard’s, 505 12th Street, Nederland.   His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 17, 2013, at Broussard’s, with a burial to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.
