Lou Ellen Overstreet, 89, of Kountze, died Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at Kountze Nursing Center.  She was born on August 13, 1923, in Vernon, Alabama, to Annie Elizabeth Adair Barnes and James Daniel Barnes, and had been a resident of Kountze for fifty-six years.  Lou owned and operated Lou’s Flower Shop in Kountze.

Lou was a member of Eastern Star over fifty years, from 1962 until 2012, having served as Worthy Matron for three years and also in many other offices.  She was a member of First Baptist Church of Kountze where she taught Sunday school for every age group and was prayer chairman for many years.  Lou taught pre-kindergarten in her home and also made and sold jewelry.

Survivors include her children, James A. Overstreet and his wife, Barbara, of Kountze; Gayle Powers and her husband, Jim, of Woodville; William E. Overstreet and his wife, Gwen, of Kountze; and John E. Overstreet and his wife, Becky, of Beaumont; brother, John Barnes of Weatherford; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Pat H. Overstreet; four brothers, and one sister.

A gathering of Mrs. Overstreet’s family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 7, 2012, at Broussard’s, 530 West Monroe, Kountze.  Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 8, 2012, at Broussard’s, with interment to follow at Holland Cemetery, Kountze.
