Joseph Elkin Batiste, 78, of Winnie, passed away on Monday, October 29, 2012, at Winnie Community Hospital. He was born on January 24, 1934, in Lawtell, Louisiana, to Cecilia Boute and Lennis Batiste.

In 1951, Joseph married his late wife, Irma Jean James and they were married for forty-four years. He was a lifelong resident of Stowell. Joseph worked as a rice farmer until he retired.  He enjoyed working in his garden and growing his own vegetables, watching Western movies and TV shows, and was a faithful member of St. Louis Catholic Church.

He is survived by his sons, Joseph Wayne Batiste, Sr. and his wife, Brenda; Terry Batiste; and Tony Curtis Batiste and his wife, Sandra, all of Winnie; sister, Mary Lou Collins and her husband, Calvin of Lake Charles, Louisiana; grandchildren, Andrea Guillory, Veronica Hall, Marcus Guillory, Lance Speights, Joseph Batiste, Jr., Karen Batiste, Chad Godfrey, Chelsea Batiste, and Christopher Batiste; great-grandchildren, Deondrick, Devin, Desmond, Sean, Sade, Robert, Rashard, Jayden, Olivia, and Abigail; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
