Bettie Sue Westerterp, 80, of Kountze, passed away Sunday, October 28, 2012.  She was born on December 9, 1931, in Center, Texas, to Lessie Mae Conner Williams and Floyd Wesley Williams.

She married Ben Westerterp on June 29, 1950.  They were married for forty-nine years, until his death in 1999.  The family lived in Beaumont, Texas for many years where they were very active with their children in Little League and PTA.  Betty also worked for Dr. Sebe Lewis and Dr. Lulu Smith.

Upon moving to Kountze, Bettie and her husband became active members of First United Methodist Church of Kountze.

She was a loving wife, mother, and a wonderful “granny” to all of her grandkids.

Survivors include her children, Bill Westerterp and his wife, Sue, of Kountze; Susie Burks and her husband, Glenn of Hemphill; and Benny Westerterp and his wife Leisa, of Kountze; sisters, Charlcye Copeland of Lumberton, Peggy Gant of Beaumont, and Marie Williams of Kountze; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.B. Westerterp; brother, Jerry Williams; and sister, Joyce Kerr.

A gathering of Mrs. Westerterp’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 31, 2012, at Broussard’s, 530 West Monroe, Kountze. Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 1, 2012, at Broussard’s, with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.
