Emmer Luther “E.L.” Pelt, 84, of Nederland, died Sunday, October 21, 2012. He was born October 4, 1928, to Emma Pattillo Pelt and Luther Pelt, and had been a resident of the area since 1956. E.L. was a graduate of Honey Island High School and also a veteran in the United States Army. He continued his education at Stephen F. Austin University, where he received a degree in Bachelor of Business Administration. E.L. was employed for over thirty-five years as a credit union manager, having worked for both Telco Federal Credit Union and Neches Federal Credit Union. He was a sixty year member of the Pine Masonic Lodge #642, Kountze, and a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Nederland.
He is preceded in death by parents, Emma Pattillo Pelt and Luther Pelt; and grandparents, Lem Pattillo and Ella Brackin Pattillo. Survivors include his wife, Joan Pelt; son, Gerald Pelt; and daughter, Sharon Sherer and her husband, Kirk, all of Nederland; grandchildren, Lucas Pelt and his wife, Julia, of Clovis, New Mexico; Megan Pelt; Ryan Sherer; and Ashlyn Sherer, all of Nederland; great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Pelt and Wyatt Benjamin Luther Pelt; and brother-in-law, Garland Young and his wife, Brenda, of Nederland.
A gathering of Mr. Pelt’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 25, 2012, at Broussard’s, with interment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.
