Rebecca “Becky” Salter, 57, of Port Arthur, died on Friday, October 12, 2012, at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston.

She was born on May 29, 1955, to Josephine Hernandez Garcia and Joe H. Garcia, Jr., and later became Miss Mexico in 1973. Becky loved the outdoors, especially fishing and motorcycle trips.  She thoroughly enjoyed her work at H-E-B and was heavily involved with the Feast of Sharing and Relay for Life.  Most of all, she cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Salter Paszkiewicz of Port Arthur; son, Jason Salter and his wife, Denise, of Groves; grandchildren, Alexis Theriot, Hadyn Paszkiewicz, Harlee Paszkiewicz, Jaedyn Grace Salter, Mackenzie Woods; Mason Woods; mother, Josephine Hernandez Garcia; sister, Beatrice Noyola and her husband, Jesse; brothers, Joseph Edward Garcia and Benjamin Manuel Garcia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Becky is preceded in death by her father; and grandparents, Beatrice and Joe Garcia, Sr.

A gathering of Ms. Salter’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Monday, October 15, 2012, at Broussard’s, 505 12th Street, Nederland. Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at Broussard’s, with interment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3900 Twin City Hwy, Groves.
