John "Mac" McGill Cheesman
August 6, 1927 - October 9, 2012

John McGill “Mac” Cheesman, 85, of Beaumont, passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2012, after a brief illness. A native and lifelong resident of Beaumont, he was born on August 6, 1927, to Ione McGill and Guy W. Cheesman.

Mac graduated from Beaumont High School in 1943. He went on to graduate from The University of Texas, where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity, and was a distinguished member of the Phi Kappa Psi Bowling Team. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was stationed in San Diego, California.

After graduating, he embarked on a forty-one year career as a stock broker/financial advisor. Mac enjoyed one of the most outstanding reputations one could ever achieve in the business. In fact, he was known as “Mr. Investment” to the entire community of Beaumont for many years. He was a devoted husband and a loving father. He enjoyed playing golf, hunting, tennis, gardening, and more than anything he cherished his time with family and friends. He also was passionate about his family dogs. There were too many to name over the years, however “Pal” was his main dog companion. Mac was a man who never met a stranger. He was loved by all.

He was a longtime member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church where he served on the session as a Deacon, and most recently on the Foundation Board of Directors. Mac also taught Sunday school for many years. He was active in West End Little League as a coach and eventually serving as president. He was a member of the Rotary Club and the Beaumont Country Club.

Mac is survived by his wife, Ruth Esser Cheesman; children, Polly Frazier and her husband, William, of Dallas; John McGill Cheesman, Jr. and his wife, Laura, of Houston; Melinda Condos and her husband, Alex, of San Antonio; and Dr. Samuel F. Bean; grandchildren, Billy, Scott, and David Frazier, Meredith, Allyson, and John Cheesman, Matthew Bean, Fletcher and George Mixon, and Elliot and Alexa Condos; brother, Guy Walden Cheesman

He is preceded in death by the mother of his children and first wife, Marji Hanna Cheesman; daughter, Camille Cheesman Bean; and second wife, Eloise Dentler Cheesman.
