Ruth “Granny” Irene Womble, 94, of Port Arthur, died Sunday, September 23, 2012, at Gulf Healthcare Center in Port Arthur. Born April 5, 1918, in Strong, Arkansas, she was the daughter of Eva Gandy Massey and Ollie Massey. Ruth was a member of Rose City Baptist Church in Vidor and enjoyed spending her spare time gardening.

Survivors include her son, Robert S. Womble, Jr., and his wife, Martha, of Port Acres; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; husband of twenty-seven years, Robert S. Womble, Sr.; daughter, Gloria Jean McDuffie; two brothers; and two sisters.

A gathering of Mrs. Womble’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 27, 2012, at Broussard’s, with  a graveside service to tbegin at 2:00 p.m., at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County, Nederland.
