Wayne Griffith, 87, of Nederland, died Sunday, September 16, 2012. He was born August 1, 1925, to Nannie Smith Griffith and Willard Griffith, in Jayess, Mississippi, and had been a resident of the area for fifty years. Wayne was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served in World War II. He was employed with Texaco Marine Department and retired after forty years of employment. Wayne was a longtime member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, traveling and spending time with family. Wayne will be remembered as a man of few words who could fix anything. He is survived by his wife of twelve years, Betty Griffith of Nederland; sons, Gary Griffith and his wife, Linda, of Monticello, Mississippi and Phillip Griffith and his wife, Pam, of Orange; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Lavon Griffith of Elberta, Alabama and Kenneth Griffith of Sontag, Mississippi; and sister, Louise Callender of Kenner, Louisiana. Wayne is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Johnnie Griffith; two sisters; and five brothers. A gathering of Mr. Griffith’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 19, 2012, at Broussards, with interment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.
