Nancy Florence Jones Helms, 66, of Beaumont, died Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth, Beaumont. She was born on December 21, 1945, in Odessa, Missouri, to Mary Margaret Fitzpatrick and Robert W. Barnett, and had been a resident of the Beaumont area most of her life. Nancy was a retired Registered Nurse from CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth and a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church since 1980.

She held a Masters Degree in Nursing and was a Kappa Kappa with Sigma Theta Tau International.  Nancy loved being a nurse, was an institution both with the Sisters of Charity Incarnate Word and with St. Elizabeth Hospital.  She loved to guest lecture out at Lamar and at local high schools to promote her greatest passion: sharing what it was to be a nurse to others.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard S. Helms; and brother and sister-in-law, Robert C. and Effie Jones.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Lynn Helms Neff and her husband, Steve, of Beaumont; son, Robert W. Helms of Houston; sisters, Susie Haxby and her husband, Bob, of San Diego, California; and Bess Jones and India of Tucson, Arizona; grandchildren, Morgan W. Neff, Sarah B. Castilaw, John F. Neff, and Kathryn E. Harvill; and nine great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service for Mrs. Helms will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 8, 2012, at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 4090 Delaware Street, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A family committal will be held at Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont.
