Tommie Pauline Carter 
December 29, 1915 - August 19, 2012

 

Tommie Pauline Carter, 96, of Nederland, died Sunday, August 19, 2012. She was born December 29, 1915, in Nacogdoches County, to Ada Irby Kerr and James Walter Kerr. Tommie grew up in Garrison, Texas and later in life moved to Port Arthur and had resided in Southeast Texas ever since.

 

She loved spending time outdoors working in the vegetable garden or with her plants and flowers. She also loved animals and especially her cat, Sam. Tommie enjoyed being at home and stayed busy sewing, cooking, quilting and crocheting. She loved her church and was a member of the choir for many years. Tommie was also a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

 

Survivors include her children, Johnnie C. Carter, Jr. and his wife, Jeanne, of Nederland; and Andrew Terry Carter, Sr. of LaBelle; grandchildren, Jeffery Carter, Jennifer Stehouwer, Jill Hedge, and Andrew Terry Carter, Jr.; and sister, Nancy Roy and her husband, Donald, of Lake Charles, Louisiana.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Johnnie C. Carter, Sr.; sister, Lucille Wilkerson; and brother, James Kerr.

 

A gathering of Mrs. Carter’s family and friends will begin at 12:00 p.m., with her funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County, Nederland.
