Louis Edwin Biar, Jr., born November 2, 1936, in Giddings, Texas, was called peacefully home by His loving Savior on Monday, August 6, 2012, at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.

The only child of Louis Edwin Biar, Sr. and Lilla Lorena Scott Biar, he was baptized as an infant and confirmed his baptismal vows at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings. He graduated from Giddings High School, where he was part of the 1951 state championship football team. On August 3, 1958, he was married to Patricia (Pat) Kieschnick Biar, also at Immanuel in Giddings.

He received a BS degree in Chemical Engineering from Texas A & M in 1958, where he served as a proud member of the Corps of Cadets. After serving six months of active duty as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Chemical Corps at Fort McLelland, Alabama and seven years in active reserves, he was honorably discharged from the United States Army as 1st Lieutenant in February of 1966.

Louis worked as Production Manager of Di-Olefin Operations for B. F. Goodrich in Port Neches for twenty-three years. In 1982 he joined Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Beaumont as a Project Engineer until his retirement on July 1, 2000. A devoted disciple of Christ, Louis was a faithful member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Nederland for fifty-three years, where he served in many capacities. 

All who knew Louis loved his kind heart and gentle spirit. His joy and fulfillment came from the happiness of his family and friends. He was patient with and respectful of all people. Through the years he eagerly devoted his time to coaching and other involvement in the activities of his children and grandchildren. He embodied the Aggie Spirit, and personal interests included Aggie football, barbecuing, and homemade eggnog—skills which he proudly passed along to his children.

His parents preceded him in death.  He is survived by his loving wife of  fifty-four years, Pat; children Beth Shroff and her husband, Jerry, of Albuquerque; Scott Biar and his wife, Kelly, of Houston, and Amy Acosta and her husband, Luis, of Lewisville. The joy of his life were his eight grandchildren, Lindsey Shroff Ivey and her husband, Michael; Chelsey Shroff; Andrew, Jeremy, Carina and Braden Biar; and Nicole and Nelson Acosta. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Wayne Kieschnick and his wife, Reneé, of Giddings; and a host of extended family members and friends.

A gathering of Mr. Biar’s family and friends will be 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 10, 2012, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 2711 Helena, Nederland. His service of celebration will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 11, 2012, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. A graveside service will follow at 4:00 p.m. at Giddings City Cemetery on Highway 290 West in Giddings. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.

The family gives special thanks to the medical staffs of Oak Grove Nursing Home, Southeast Texas Medical Center, and Odyssey Hospice for their excellent and loving care and to the pastors and congregation of Holy Cross for constant prayers and support.  May God bless each of you.
