Hampton "Hamp" O. Woods

Hampton Oliphant “Hamp” Woods, 92, of Nederland, died Tuesday, July 31, 2012. He was born on December 14, 1919, in Kirbyville, to Ruby Prentice Woods and B.A. Woods, and had been a resident of Nederland for sixty-one years. Hamp retired as an accomplished sales representative with Hershey Foods. As a youngster growing up in Kirbyville, Texas, he loved his horses and being outdoors hunting and fishing near Cow Creek. Later in life he developed a passion for gardening, which he enjoyed until his late 80’s. All who knew him will remember how much he loved to ‘visit’ and laugh with his friends. He is survived by his grandchildren, Jeff Sadighi and Sherrie Sadighi of Bellingham, Washington; brother, Dr. Seborn Woods of Shreveport, Louisiana; sister, Betty Beaver of Fort Worth; brother-in-law, Sam Armistead and his wife, Carolyn Armistead; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Hamp is preceded in death by his wife of fifty-one years, Maxine Woods; parents; son, Bryant Prentice Woods; daughter, Mart Sadighi; brothers, Crawford Woods and Prentice Woods; and sisters, Emma Charlotte Stephens, Sarah Sanders and Eloise Krebs. A gathering of Mr. Woods’ family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., with his funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 11, 2012, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Hamp’s name to: Debbie Dietrich, who helped provide Hamp with exceptional care in his last few months, c/o Chase Bank, Account # 2901657350, for the care of her son, Josh Cendejas, who recently became paraplegic in a swimming accident; or First United Methodist Church, 104 North 13th Street, Nederland, Texas, 77627, where Hamp made his church home.
