Betty Carney DeRuiter 
January 22, 1930 - July 19, 2012

Betty Carney DeRuiter, 82, of Nederland, died Thursday, July 19, 2012, at Harbor Hospice, Beaumont. Born January 22, 1930, Betty was the daughter of Mable Tobin Carney and Ezra Holmes Carney.  She was a longtime member of Lamplighter Baptist Church, Port Arthur. Betty loved her church, family, and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed baking, fishing, and watching baseball games. Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

 

She is survived by her daughters, Dianne Allen and her husband, Wayne, of Austin, Karen Hanley and her husband, Tim, of Nederland; grandchildren, David Blackman and his wife, Tisha, of Austin; Christopher Allen and his wife, Breann, of Roy, Utah; Matthew Hanley of Nederland; Rodney Allen and his wife, Jodi, of Englewood, Colorado; and Ryan Allen and his wife, Heather, of Indianapolis, Indiana; and eight great-grandchildren.

 

Betty is preceded in death by her parents; and husband, John J. DeRuiter, Jr.

 

A gathering of Mrs. DeRuiter’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Sunday, July 22, 2012, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Her funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 23, 2012, at Broussard’s, with interment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 755 South 11th Street, Suite 212, Beaumont, Texas 77701, or Lamplighter Baptist Church, 5959 9th Avenue, Port Arthur, Texas 77642.

 

The family would like to extend their thanks to Cathy Gohlke (hospice nurse), Nuwasa Lewis (hospice nurse’s aid), and Harbor Hospice House for their outstanding care during these difficult times.
