Tommy Michael Thompson
July 11, 1944 - July 1, 2012 |
Tommy Michael Thompson, 67, of Beaumont, died Sunday, July 1, 2012, after a long battle with cancer. He was born on July 11, 1944, in Nacogdoches, to Corene Baker Thompson and William Hilton Thompson. In 1964, Tommy married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Linda Beard. They were married forty-seven years. He was a member of Ridgewood Church of Christ. Tommy was a proud graduate of French High School Class of 1962. In 1989, Tommy established his business, A&A Equipment, along with his two sons, David and John, who continue the business today. Tommy enjoyed all sports. He had a special love for baseball, coaching North End Senior League and Big League for many years. He was an excellent golfer and fisherman. His family and close friends spent a lot of time on the golf course and the lake with Tommy. As a grandfather of five, Tommy loved spending time with his grandchildren, “his pride and joy.” He attended every school function, sporting event, and dance recital. Tommy changed his name to “Papa” when the grandchildren were born. Papa taught his grandchildren how to fish and bait the hook. He created “the adventure,” which could mean a lot of things-a trip to the woods, the lake, the beach, backyard, or the golf course. Thanks to “Papa”, his family has many special memories and stories to tell. Survivors include his wife, Linda Thompson; children, David Michael Thompson and his wife, Caralee and John Derek Thompson and his wife, Michelle, both of Fannett; and grandchildren, Ainsley, Jack, Raegan, Travis, and Chase. He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Bobby Thompson. A gathering of Mr. Thompson’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, July 2, 2012, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at Broussard’s, with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont. Memorial contributions may be made to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, Texas 77210 or to Harbor Hospice, 2450 North Major Drive, Beaumont, Texas 77713.
