Harlis Underwood

Harlis Underwood, 77, of Sour Lake, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 14, 2012. He was born on November 17, 1934, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Irene Morman Underwood and Floyd Underwood. Harlis was a United States Army veteran. He retired as vice-president, following thirty-two years of service, with Coastal Lumber and Supply in Orange. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and Pinewood Golf Association. Survivors include his wife of forty years, Charlotte Underwood; daughter, Debbie Bean and her husband, Cory, of Montgomery; son, David Underwood and his wife, Lori, of Katy; grandchildren, Blake Bean, Brock Bean, Brett Bean, Ava Underwood, and Drew Underwood; brother, Richard Underwood and his wife, Nancy, of Sarasota, Florida; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. Harlis is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Peggy Land; and brothers, Jerry Underwood and Donald Underwood. A gathering of Mr. Underwood’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Saturday, June 16, 2012, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 17, 2012, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 3810 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His committal was held at Broussard’s Crematorium. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Richard Underwood, Roger Purkiss, Jimmy Burke, Stan Davis, Bruce Virnig, Harry Neinast, Rick Pease, Jamey Harrison, and Bruce Thornton..
