Alice Poché, 99, of Beaumont, died on Friday, June 8, 2012. She was born on December 27, 1912, in Woodlawn, Louisiana, to Amelia Miller and Cyrus Miller, and had been a resident of the Beaumont area most of her life. Mrs. Poché enjoyed sewing, mostly clothes, for Loretta and herself. She loved to do yard work and had a green thumb that enabled her to have a successful vegetable garden. Another hobby included cooking, with her specialties including dough-boys, blackberry cobbler, rice and gravy, chicken and dumplings, and shrimp gumbo. Mrs. Poché was an avid walker, and active participant in water aerobics. She liked to watch television, especially the game shows in the early evenings. Mrs. Poché also loved to travel throughout the United States. Survivors include her son, Glenn M. Poché and his wife, Barbara, of Nassau Bay; daughter, Loretta Poché Barber and her husband, Tom, of Birmingham, Alabama; grandchildren, Cathleen Barber and her husband, Danny Gamble; and Carol Barber, all of Birmingham, Alabama; Christina Lafrenz and her husband, Martin, of Portland, Oregon; Carrie McGrann and her husband, Paul, of Birmingham, Alabama; Michelle Reynolds and her husband, Greg, of Santa Fe, Texas; and Shannon Poché of Nassau Bay; great-grandchildren, Dylan McGrann, Codi-Jane McGrann, Ian Lafrenz, and Sophie Lafrenz; sisters, Roberta Brocata of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and Lou Anna Greeson of Leesville, Louisiana; and brother, Huey Miller of Sulphur, Louisiana. She is preceded in death by her parents, Amelia and Cyrus Miller; husband, Gussie Joseph Poché; brothers, Daniel Miller, Dempsy Miller, and Earl Miller; and sisters, Opal Fontenot, Joy McGinnis, and Jenny Grayson. A gathering of Mrs. Poché’s family and friends will begin at 5:00 p.m., with her Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 14, 2012, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 15, 2012, at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church-Chapel, 6825 Gladys Avenue, Beaumont, with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.
