Bobbie Kea Barrow

Bobbie Barrow, 77, of High Island, came home to family and friends on Tuesday afternoon, June 5, 2012, and to her Lord as she crossed the High Island Bridge. She loved her community and proudly proclaimed it as “the Pike’s Peak” of the Gulf Coast to all who asked her where she was from. Over the years, birders visiting the church across the street from where Bobbie lived were supplied with many contributions of her icebox pies, potato salad, lasagnas, pink salad and iced tea. Any family member visiting never left the house without a dish of “something”. She was the vocal historian for the Barrow clan, Jones’, Hatcher’s, Kahla’s and the countless family trees that streamed from them. Bobbie was a surrogate guardian of all things dear to family tradition—flags for the Veterans at the cemetery, Easter Lilies and Poinsettias for the families at holidays. Among her favorite things in life were bird watching, the Sunday crossword puzzle, tamales, cheesy enchiladas, Texas wildflowers in the spring, a good chap stick, and the family in her life.During her lifetime Bobbie served her community as a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, PTA President High Island Independent School District, and life time member of St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church. She is survived by her sons, Claude Stanford Barrow and his wife, Connie of High Island, and Frank Harvey Barrow and his wife, Maxette of Austin; grandson, Robert Barrow and his wife, Stormy of Pt. Bolivar; brother, Billie Jones of Hardin; great-grandchildren, Wyatt Tate Barrow and Clayton Frank Barrow; grand dogs, Lacey, Duke, Sunny and Tater; and a host of beloved family and friends. Bobbie is preceded in death by her parents, Vinnie Virginia Fullerton and Harvey Newton Jones; husband, Claude Barrow. A gathering of Mrs. Barrow’s family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 7, 2012, at St Matthew’s United Methodist Church, 1308 Weeks Ave., High Island. Her funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 8, 2012 at the church with burial to follow at High Island Cemetery.The Barrow family wishes to express our heartfelt thanks to Odyssey Hospice, Austin and Beaumont; Hill Country Care Providers; and Home Therapy, both of Austin for their sweet and supporting care of Bobbie in her final days.
