Anna Claira Mohr Kahla, 86, of Port Bolivar, died September 24, 2011 at Lufkin Memorial Hospital. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1925 and later moved with her parents to Manvel, Texas. She married the love of her life, Joe H. Kahla in 1942 and moved to Port Bolivar, Texas, where they lived and raised their family. Anna was a founding leader in the Port Bolivar 4-H Club, where she served for eighteen years and she was the chairman of the Democratic Voting Party for twenty-one years. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, where she played the piano. Anna was an instrumental partner in the family’s farming and ranching operations as well as all the family business ventures.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Claira Mohr and by her son, Glenn Ray Kahla.
Anna is survived by her husband of sixty-eight years, Joe H. Kahla; son, Dr. John W. Kahla and his wife, Lee Ellen Kahla, of Jasper, Texas; daughter, Jo Ann Stanley and her husband, Glenn Stanley, of Vidor, Texas; daughter -in-law, Kay Novak, of Flatonia, Texas; grandchildren, Melissa and Ryan Raley, of Brenham, Texas; Charlotte and Cody Odom, Joe Glenn and Karen Kahla, and Jodi and Bill Morian, Jr., of Jasper, Texas; Tony and Brenda Stanley of Vidor, Texas, Adam and Kristi Stanley of Azele, Texas and Greg and La Nita Stanley of Vidor, Texas; and sixteen great grandchildren, Cooper, Marci, Wyatt, Harley, Jake, Jack, Billy, Matt, Syndi, Cherie, Andrea, Austin, Brenna, Colby, Haley, and Christian.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at Port Bolivar United Methodist Church, Port Bolivar, under the direction of Broussard’s, 134 W. Buccaneer Drive, Winnie, followed by burial in Port Bolivar Cemetery. A gathering of her family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening, September 26, 2011 at Broussard’s.
