Maurine Hampton West 
March 3, 1930 - September 23, 2011

 

Maurine Hampton West, 81, of Baytown passed away peacefully following a short illness on Friday, September 23, 2011.  She was born March 3, 1930, in Greenville, Mississippi to James and Lois Hampton.

Maurine graduated from Stark High School in Orange and attended Lamar Tech to receive her degree as a Registered Nurse.  She put her skills to work at Hotel Dieu Hospital, St. Teresa Hospital, St. Elizabeth Hospital, and Ideco before retiring.  She was president of The Texas Industrial Nurses and president of The Desk and Derrick Organization.

Maurine and her husband, Gordon retired to San Benito, Texas and was active in the retirement community in which they lived.  They were avid bridge players and loved to entertain friends and family.  After the death of her husband, Maurine moved to Baytown to be closer to her daughter and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary West and life partner, Maria of Baytown; son, Harvey G. West and his wife, Jaton of Berlin, Germany; daughter-in-law, JoAnn West of New Braunfels; brothers, John Hampton and his wife, Angela of Mineral Wells, Jimmy Hampton and his wife, Gina of Anahuac, and Don Hampton and his wife, Barbara of Ft. Worth; grandchildren, Stephen West, Cory West, and Gordon West; great grandchildren, Noe and Mila West; and several nieces and nephews.

Other than her parents, Maurine is preceded in death by her husband, H. G. “Gordon” West, the love of her life for forty-six years; son, Ralph E. West; and brothers, Billy Hampton and Pete Hampton.

The family wishes to thank the countless nurses and caregivers who spent so many hours with her in her final weeks, especially the doctors and nurses of Methodist Hospital in Houston.

Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4955 Pine Street, Beaumont.  A gathering of family and friends will be Monday, September 26, 2011, 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Broussard’s.

Following the interment, a reception to celebrate Maurine’s life will be 2:30 p.m. at Trattora Italia, 104 N. Main Street, Baytown, (281) 425-9900.
