Cleita "Maw" Marie Kirkland, 68, of Winnie died September 17, 2011, at Kindred Hospital in Houston.
She was born January 10, 1943, in Liberty to Julius DeJohn and Emogene Hale DeJohn and lived in the Winnie area most of her life. Cleita was a retired secretary with the Department of Energy at Big Hill, and enjoyed being with her family, working in her yard with her flowers, vegetables and mowing the grass. She was a chairperson for four years with Chambers County Relay for Life.
Cleita is survived by her mama, Opal Hale; sons, Kevin Cormier and his wife, Jamie all of Winnie and Tod Kirkland of Vidor; daughter, Tracy Robinson and her husband, James of Sierra Vista, Arizona; sister, Wanda Williams and J. T. Kerley of Huffman; grandchildren, Mandy Marie Cormier and Kristi Kaye Cormier; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Elvis Kirkland; biological mother, Emogene Gregg; grandson, "Baby" Kasey Cormier; sisters, Charlene Shipman and Terry Edmonds; brother, Sonny Wayne Hale.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 22, 2011, at Broussard’s, 134 W. Buccaneer Drive in Winnie with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery. A gathering of her family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at Broussard’s.
